500 Books Before Middle School

500 Books Before Middle School

Join our free program that encourages kids to read 500 books before they begin middle school! Reading provides a solid foundation for academic success, and one of the best ways to encourage reading is to do it every day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • 500 books are a lot! How can my child possibly read that much?
Reading two books a week equals 104 books in one year, 208 books in two years, 312 books in three years, and so on. Audiobooks count, too!
  • Can my child read the same book over and over?
No, each of the books logged should be different, but they can definitely be part of the same series.
  • What ages can participate?
Ages 6-11 (typically kindergarten to 5th grade).
  • How do I sign up?
Sign up and track progress online on your computer or download the Beanstack Tracker app for your mobile on the App Store or GooglePlay. Once you have downloaded the Beanstack Tracker app, search for "Henderson Libraries" to register with us!
  • Does my child receive anything for reading so many books?
After reading 50 books, your child will receive a chain and bead/charm. For every 50 books after that, they'll receive another bead/charm. Once they read 500 books, they will receive a coupon for the Friends of Henderson Libraries book sale.
  • Are we limited to just reading library books?
Kids can read anything! Books from home, the library, a grandparent's house, anywhere. Even listening to audiobooks.
