Internet Access on Library Owned Computers
In accordance with its stated mission, the library provides Internet access and other public computer services to the extent that space and budgetary limitations allow. Access to the Internet is available in the library through public computers, and through wireless service for those with their own wireless-enabled equipment. In addition the library uses the Internet to make available a variety of online resources and services.
A library account in good standing (as defined by the current Circulation Policy) with a password gives access to the library's public computers, wireless network, and Internet resources. As with all other library materials, parents or other designated caregivers, not library staff, are responsible for monitoring and controlling their minor children's access to the Internet and other technology services.
Adults with full library privileges may choose between full Internet access, filtered access, or no access on the library's computers for themselves and their minor children.
Children will be allowed filtered Internet access, unless an adult responsible for the child's library account chooses to allow full access or no access. Due to limitations on filtering wireless Internet service, patrons with filtered Internet access or no access may not be able to use the library wireless service. Library users should be aware that no filtering software is infallible and that the user may still encounter offensive or age-inappropriate materials while filters are in effect.
The library screens all Internet traffic in order to secure its network from damaging and illegal activity, over and above the optional content filters provided. Usage of some content types, such as high-bandwidth material, may be regulated in order to provide fair and equitable access to all users.
The library is not responsible for the content of any resources available over the Internet and will not monitor any patron's use of the Internet except in case of disturbance to other patrons or staff in the library. Patrons' use of the Internet, as with use of any library facilities, must conform to normal standards of behavior in a public place using facilities that are shared with the general population. The library complies with all federal, state, and local laws in all aspects of its operations, including Internet access and other technology services.
The library is not responsible for assisting patrons to access the library's online resources with the use of their own technology equipment in the library or at home. Use of the library's wireless access to the Internet, as well as library-funded online resources, is entirely at the user's own risk with no liability for the library resulting from malfunction or damage to privately-owned equipment.
Patrons may be restricted from use of the library and its resources, including online and computer services, if they engage in the following prohibited activities:
