The Art and Meaning of Mariachi

Presented by Mariachi Los Bravos de J.D. Smith Middle School

Students will be performing and presenting the art of mariachi, a music expression dating back to 18th century Mexico.

After the Spanish introduced violins, guitars, harps, brass instruments, and woodwinds to Mexico, indigenous and mestizo peoples learned to play and make these instruments, often giving them modified shapes and tunings, which gave rise to a number of folk musical styles, including mariachi.

Come listen to various musical forms of mariachi as students from the Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Mariachi Studies give you a tour of the significance and evolution of this unique and popular art form.
