See live demonstrations of this traditional Turkish art form.

The art of paper marbling (also called ebru, or Turkish Marbling) originated in the 15th century in Turkey and the East. The process involves first thickening water and then dropping paints directly onto the water, so the artist is able to manipulate the paint on the water's surface. This style was passed down from mentor to apprentice, and though it originated as a decorative backdrop to written works, in time the paper became art in its own right. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique monotype.

This series is part of Around the World at Henderson Libraries, a celebration of countries and cultures.
